HCM City priorities hi-tech investment |

Remarkable improvements in the investment and business environment have drawn more foreign and local hi-tech investors to Ho Chi Minh City, the biggest economic hub in Vietnam. The First Solar Technology Group from the US to join its hi-tech industry, which has to date seen the presence of Intel (US), Sanyo and Nidec (Japan), and Robert Bosch (Germany).
The $1 billion -plus plant is expected to become operational in April, 2012. It would help add $1 billion to HCM City’s export value per year thereafter. Early this year, HPT Informatics Technology Service company received a licence for setting up a $14. 8 million IT research and application centre at Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Park. |

World Bank loans $570m for key projects |

The World Bank's Board of Executive Directors approved on Tuesday one loan and three credits totaling US$570 million to several development projects in Vietnam.
The approvals include a loan of US$180 million from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development to scale up and reinforce Vietnam's electricity transmission system. Meanwhile, the credits, to be provided by the International Development Association, include $150 million for a Hospital Waste Management Support Project, $175 million for the Hai Phong Urban Transport Project, and additional financing of $65 million for the Coastal Cities Environmental Sanitation Project.
